How do I go about picking band mates?

I have never been in a band. What kind of things should I be asking
the people who responded to my craigslist post?

I know to ask about similar music tastes. I have that covered.
Anything else? Good tips?
And how do I go about... this sounds so stupid, but how do I go about
directing the other band mates? They're all my songs with little
instrumentation- if any. The way I am to sing them is all set, I
therefore know the sound I want from people who can't hear the music I
hear when I sing. I just don't know how to pull it out of another
person. I'm afraid there's going to be a lot of me saying, "No. That's
not right. It's more like... the wind getting stronger," and other
strange ways of trying to explain the desired sound to another.
